I found this website a long time ago when I was still in polytechnic. Engrish.com has since amassed lots of embarrassing english mistakes made by anyone and everyone. Visit their website and have a good laugh at other people's expense. :P
In this picture, the problem sentence reads "Coffee and other coloured drinks are unadmitted."
Sounds wrong, what do you think?

i think it should be 'Only Mineral Water is Allowed' or 'You can only drink Mineral Water Inside'.. hee
seriously, maybe it should read 'Beverages that stain are not allowed'... then again, if we were to use most of the words in the original statement, maybe - "Coffee and other coloured drinks are not allowed"...unadmitted refers to the person or a form of entry. i thought 'coffee' and 'other coloured drinks' are also a form of repetition - don't they mean the same thing?
can't find 'unadmit' in Oxford, too
sorry for the long comment : )
yes, i agree that what might make more sense would be 'coffee and other drinks that stain are not allowed in the premises'.
as to why coffee is singled out among the many other 'coloured drinks'? i think it's because coffee stains are the hardest to remove?
either that, or the sign-maker has a grudge against coffee.
I think it is better if the first sentence goes like this...
" For the safety of all performers and the protection OF intellectual rights, any filming OR photography is prohibited IN the auditorium."
(The prohibition on flash is redundant since filming or photography is prohibited)
I mean, what's the point of using flash when you can't take any photos. Even if you want to do it secretly, the flash will just blow your cover.
I do agree that the sentence structure or even the words used are wrong. I am sure that the writer have the right intention of not allowing any coffee and also coloured drinks in the auditorium as it may stain the place but the writer's choice of words could be better.
I feel that it should be written as, "All beverages except for bottled mineral water are not permitted".

'of' instead of 'to' intellectual rights...am I correct ar?
Flash is forbidden.. Flash photography is forbidden? or 'flashing' is forbidden but stripping is allowed..hehehehe
Well I agree that the sentence sounds incorrect. The choices of words are not that appropriate. They could have just simply said: Coloured drinks are not allowed into the auditorium. This message would just comprise all drinks that stain and helps to explain the expected behaviour clearly.

I think that the word “unadmitted” is not really suitable for the sentence as I feel that the word “admit” mainly refers to a person rather than drinks.
I do agree with Rasyidah that suggested "All beverages except for bottled mineral water are not permitted".
I feel that this sentence or rather "rule" I feel that it easier to understand this statement as it is straight forward and send the exact message across to the reader.
- Nuraini –
Rather than saying what is not allowed..they should have said what is allowed..the bottomline is drinks which leaves a stain when spilled is allowed..they could have phrased it in a better way..
Kumari
oops..i made a mistake..drinks which leaves a stain when spilled is NOT allowed..
Kumari
actually i think the main problem with that sentence is the use of the word 'unadmitted'.
the sentence should simply read 'coffee and other coloured drinks are not allowed inside the auditorium'.
That's what i feel!:)
oops sorry forgot to leave my name in the previous comment.
Mellissa here!
...so it means that sugar syrup is permitted, so is 7-up and Sprite. Period.
